“Our compulsiveness to use [certain] products is not an accident – it is by design,” says Nir Eyal, author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products. “When you think of some of the most habit-forming products around – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the iPhone – these products that we can’t seem to stop checking – these products have been designed to be engaging, which also means we can engineer products to be more engaging based on a core set of principles.”
