5 insights from Day 1 at THINK 16

And, to keep you thinking, the stories of the day that we talked about at THINK 16:

- The secret shame of middle-class Americans. Nearly half of Americans would have trouble finding $400 to pay for an emergency.

- Digital America: A tale of the haves and have-mores. While the most advanced sectors, companies, and individuals push the boundaries of technology use, the U.S. economy as a whole is realizing only 18 percent of its digital potential.

- Nick Chasse, VP Business Development, Maine Credit Union League, recommended the book "Raving Fans." As Nick wrote: "Everyone should read Raving Fans. One of my favorite books, I keep thinking about this read while sitting through the opening sessions. Our members need to be raving fans to spread the word. Bring them products and services before they even realize they need them."

- Gary Vaynerchuk writes about empathy being one of the keys to his business success. "The best advice I have for you is this: LISTEN. Pay attention to everyone you interact with and be an active consumer of humans. Try to surround yourself with people who are massively empathetic and put it into practical use. Don't talk, just listen."

- From our own Bill Prichard: Why product development should always be empathetic. "Applying an empathetic approach to products, services and outreach efforts will not only enhance the member experience you provide, but will also serve as a point of differentiation between your credit union and big banks."

- And, last but not least, CO-OP announced the new Purpose initiative.
