IVAN ASKWITH ON CULTIVATING A CULT FOLLOWING

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdoHWUrceTA&rel=0

“It’s an exiting time to be you: The opportunities in front of you are significant and amazing.”

By studying the rise of fan culture at MIT, Askwith learned more than a few things about how people develop allegiances to their favorite shows, bands and businesses. In this presentation, he shares his insights into what inspires fans to become devoted followers. He also shares why big organizations – including television networks and big banks – don’t do a good job of cultivating fans, leaving the door of opportunity open for smaller players to develop cult followings.

Consultant and producer Ivan Askwith was the creative force behind two record-breaking Kickstarter campaigns – one to fund the production of the Veronica Mars movie and the other to revive the beloved PBS series Reading Rainbow.
