The ultimate purpose of a vision is to trigger action. This is easier if you root it in something that you deeply care about which will also bring benefits to the organization. Darcy Winslow – one of Nike’s most prominent leaders – had a passion for the environment. She always wanted to reconcile her passion with her purpose in the company. She came up with the idea of ecologically intelligent product design by analyzing the environmental impact of chemicals used in the making of Nike’s products. By partnering with all stakeholders through her passion and personal commitment, aligned with global and societal needs, Darcy was able to significantly alter the manufacturing process and change Nike forever. In 2015, Darcy Winslow is the CEO/Managing Partner and co-founder of the Academy for Systemic Change, an organization focused on unlocking the human spirit and building capacity in business, education, and marine ecosystems to create systemic change for social, economic, and environmental well-being at a scale that matters.
